NTDS Equipment Matrix Interconnect System (NEMIS™)
NEMIS can be configured to meet the switching needs of practically any site. Ports are organized in modules containing four ports of the same NTDS type. Up to eight modules of various types can be inserted into the NEMIS chassis to provide a custom switch configuration. When equipment or lab layout changes are required, NEMIS can be easily adapted by changing the mix of modules that populate the chassis. Upon power up, each module of the switch will perform a self-test and indicate Pass/Fail status on its front panel LEDs. There are no operator controls on the switch itself. NEMIS is controlled via an RS-232 serial port using a simple text-based command language that can be readily integrated into controller software currently in use at many navy labs. NEMIS is designed to make it easy to setup and maintain, even while it is in use. Each module contains all the electronics and interface connectors for a group of four ports. Modules can be powered down individually and removed without disturbing active communication on other ports. The ability to hot-swap modules allows the lab to keep running efficiently even when maintenance or switch reconfiguration is required. Ample connector spacing eliminates the need to remove cables from adjacent ports to gain access to the desired set of cables. When repairs are necessary, major components of the module may be swapped out quickly, keeping the Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) around 30 minutes or less. For added reliability, NEMIS has redundant power supplies, each of which can power the entire switch. In case of a failure, the failed power supply module can be swapped out while the switch is in use. Where availability of lab resources is critical and downtime is costly, Sabtech’s NEMIS provides the flexibility, simplicity and high uptime to meet the daily operational demands of the navy’s labs.
