Owl (IRIG-B) Family
The Owl PCI board family reads and generates IRIG-B timing signals. It can either synchronize with an external IRIG-B source or generate a signal using an onboard crystal oscillator.
Sabtech’s highly accurate Owl provides time down to 62.5 ns resolution in UNIX format. Its precise voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) not only allows it to provide sub-second resolution but also to “flywheel” during the absence or loss of carrier, enabling the Owl to provide time even when the external source is not present. A status LED indicates when the internal time is synchronized with the external time code. It also has the ability to modify the time signal with a user programmable offset.
The reliability of the Owl can be easily verified by performing internal and external loop-back tests. An internal loop-back path makes it possible to test the Owl without disconnecting cables. The Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) allows for easy on-site updates.
The Owl includes a driver for any one of the supported operating systems, a loop-back cable for testing, user’s guide, and sample C language code that can be freely used in application software. As a precise, reliable and flexible IRIG-B timing reader/generator, the Owl is unmatched.
